Three things for our creative resistance. 🎈 Birthday Edition

Dear friends,

This week’s ‘three things’ is in honour of my beautiful daughter, Violetta, who celebrates her fourteenth birthday tomorrow.

Violetta, here are just three of the many things about writing and living a creative life that I’ve learned from you over the past fourteen years.

1.
No one is ever too old for picture books…

And no one is ever too old for Moomins. In fact, the older we get, the more important they seem to become.

For some reason, Too-Ticky is very under-represented in the Moomin merch.

Favourite Too-Ticky quote: ‘All things are so very uncertain, and that’s exactly what makes me feel reassured.’ (Moominland Midwinter, 1957.)

2.
You can never make too many annotations. Never.

3.
Whenever and wherever you can, dance.

The connection between writing and dancing ‘feels a little neglected,’ according to Zadie Smith.
