Dear Writing friends,
A very warm welcome to new members joining us for this letter. Thank you so much for making time, in all the rush and push of January, to slow down and be here.
I’m finishing this letter cocooned in my bed, with my laptop propped up on a pile of pillows. It’s still dark outside and the rain is falling on the roof.
As I breathe, I can feel my shoulders drop and the space between my ribs expand. The words begin to rise. Somewhere at the bottom of my spine, they start to swell, to take on shapes and colours. For just this moment, I’m not going to worry about what kind of words they are, in what order. I’ll think about that later. For now, my job is just to let them arrive through my fingers.
I’m thinking of you, wherever you find yourself this weekend, and wishing you some space to breathe deeply and let your words arrive too.
This month, as part of our IGNITE theme, we’re exploring how to gather small sparks of writing and coax them into flame.
Last week, we talked about ways of slowing down and paying attention (this post is available for everyone) and we also met for our monthly Writing Together workshop to explore this idea further and make space to write.
Paid members can catch up with the recording, slides and further reading for this workshop at the links below, where you’ll also find this month’s guided audio, Slow Down and Write, along with today’s Writing Experiment.
